Last week at Kinmel Campers, we were called out to assist with a VW Transporter that was experiencing electrical issues. This campervan, fitted with a side conversion including a sink, gas hob and 12V control panel, had both leisure and main battery faults that were causing the vehicle to fail to start and compromising the internal electrics.

We attended the job quickly and got to work diagnosing and resolving the faults, leaving the customer with a fully functional and reliable system for their next adventure.

Full Battery Diagnosis: Leisure & Main System Checks

Our initial checks revealed that the leisure battery had failed, which had also compromised the main vehicle battery. When the two are wired incorrectly or one is underperforming, both batteries can begin to suffer. In this case, the vehicle wouldn’t start and several electrical issues were present inside the conversion.

We used our professional multimeter equipment to test voltage at both batteries and through key points in the split charge setup. This confirmed:

• Leisure battery voltage was well below minimum
• Main battery was drained and not holding charge
• An old inverter had been poorly wired in with split wires and loose connections

Recently, we received a call from a customer experiencing dashboard warning lights, including the ABS symbol, indicating a potentially serious fault. Although the vehicle in question was not a campervan, Kinmel Campers were more than happy to help. Our team wasted no time attending the scene.
